If you haven’t already got winter plans, joining our Syria Tour December 2024 with Xavier Raychell Blancharde is a great option.

This tour is one of our classic Syria tours that encompasses the best of what Syria has to offer. Plus, you’ll also get to experience Syria during its Christmas vibes – trust me, it’s nice. There’s a perfect mix of cultural attractions, history, nature and all-round great Syrian vibes that you will surely enjoy.

We’ll visit all of Syria’s major cities and most of the major historical sites. This includes Damascus, Homs, Hama, Krak Des Chevaliers, Aleppo, Palmyra, Maaloula and Bosra Al Sham. It’s a comprehensive North to South itinerary which will truly make you fall in love with the country and make you want to come back for more.

Itinerary

Day 1 - DAMASCUS
DAMASCUS
Arrival in Damascus either by flight (available from most Middle Eastern countries) or by land via Jordan. Lebanon is not currently an option because of the situation. To discuss how to arrive, please contact us.

Upon arrival in Damascus, you'll meet the tour leader and tour members, and we'll have a pre-tour meeting about the do's and dont's in Syria. Then, we'll have a tour of the old city and show you many unknown gems that not many people visit. Overnight in boutique hotel in the old city. Tonight will be a Friday night so the nightlife will be bustling, for those that would like to check it out!
Day 2 - SAYDNAYA, MAALOULA & KRAK DES CHEVALIERS
SAYDNAYA, MAALOULA & KRAK DES CHEVALIERS
We'll leave Damascus and head north, visiting the Christian towns of Saydnaya and Maaloula, where locals still speak the language of Jesus. Then, we'll drive to the ancient crusader castle of Krak Des Chevaliers before heading to a nearby hotel, or local homestay.
Day 3 - PALMYRA & HAMA
PALMYRA & HAMA
Today, we will drive east into the Syrian desert to visit one of the most famous historical sites in the country - Palmyra. While many of the ruins were destroyed by ISIS, what remains is still glamorous, and the recent war-torn past is also ever present in the city. Fortunately, there are signs that tourism is slowly returning.

After Palmyra, we will drive to the city of Hama, famous for its waterwheels and delicious food.

Overnight in Hama.
Day 4 - HAMA, ALEPPO
HAMA, ALEPPO
After breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the famous waterwheels of Hama, an ingenious ancient method of irrigation. We'll also sample some of Hama's most delicious sweets, and explore the old city.

Then, it will be time to move on to Aleppo, Syria's cultural capital. While this gorgeous city suffered a lot of damage during the war and recent earthquake, there is still a lot to see! We will wander through the old markets, visit the ancient citadel (with a panoramic view of the city), visit a traditional soap factory and more.

Overnight in Aleppo.
Day 5 - HOMS & MAR MUSA MONASTERY

In the morning, we will visit more sites in Aleppo, such as the famous Baron Hotel (now not operating) and Aziziyah area.

Then, we will depart the city and head south to visit Homs city, including the tomb of Khalid Ibn Al Waleed and the Um Al Zenar Church. We will also have a local lunch in the city (possible a family home!) before heading further south.

Our next stop will be Mar Musa Monastery, one of the most beautiful Christian sites in all of Syria. It's located on top of a mountain.

Then, we will head back to Damascus, where we will spend the night.
Day 6 - BOSRA AL SHAM
BOSRA AL SHAM
We will leave in the early morning and head to the south of Syria, specifically to the town of Bosra Al Sham, which is home to the best preserved Roman amphitheatre in the world, as well as impressive Islamic ruins.

After a day trip here, we'll return to Damascus. Today will be our last day in Syria and hence we will have goodbye dinner and go out to for a drink (for those that wish)!
Day 7 - DEPARTURE

Today, we will enjoy our final morning in Damascus, drinking coffee on its ancient streets.

Then, it will be time to depart. The tour finishes and we say our sad goodbyes to everyone! Those going to the airport will get an airport transfer, otherwise we will organise a transfer for you to Amman, Jordan.

Visa Approval (Security Clearance) which allows you to get the visa on arrival in Syria.

FAQ

Do I need a visa for Syria?
We will arrange something called "Security Clearance" which will allow all of our group members to get the Syrian visa on arrival at the border.
Do I need a visa for Lebanon?
That depends on your nationality. Most European, Arab, and Latin American nationalities, as well as the US and Canada, do not require a visa for Lebanon.

If you do require one, we can help you arrange it. Another option is to enter Syria by flight or through Jordan, if you don't want to get a Lebanese visa.
Can I extend the tour?
Yes, of course, tour extensions are possible. You can extend the tour to stay some additional days in Damascus, or, for an additional cost, we can arrange trips for you to visit other places, such as the Syrian coastal cities or Bloudan.
Can I start/end the tour from Jordan instead of Lebanon
Yes, this is completely possible! However, the border crossing into Jordan takes quite a long time, so be prepared to wait. Feel free to discuss this further with us.
